Board Meeting to Discuss Service Reductions and Potential Station Closures
December 4th, 2012This afternoon the Board of Directors are meeting to discuss service reductions and potential station closures as a result of declining revenues due to severe reductions in property tax revenues.
The Fire Chief is outlining a plan to close stations beginning in January in order to try and close a significant budget deficit that will impact the District beginning in July, 2013. The Fire Chief outlined 4 potential station closures during his presentation. The fire stations identified are located and primarily serve the cities and communities of Martinez, Walnut Creek, Clayton, and Lafayette.
There was extensive discussion and public comment during the meeting that lasted for more than three hours. The financial challenges facing the District are significant. More details and information was requested by the Board of Directors for a follow-up meeting scheduled on December 11th.
