Es la Semana de Prevención de Incendios!
08 de octubre, 2012Es la Semana de Prevención de Incendios! Este año, el tema, “Have Two Ways Out” focuses on the importance of having a home fire escape plan and practicing that plan to prepare you and your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 that tragically killed more than 250 personas, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres. This event changed the way firefighters and public officials thought about fire safety and the President of the United States has signed a proclamation pronouncing a national observance during that week every year since 1925.
The firefighters and fire prevention personnel in Contra Costa County are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of structure fires and related injuries through fire prevention and public safety education. We want everyone to take personal steps to increase their safety from fire, especially in their homes, by creating and practicing a home fire escape plan. In addition, we want to stress the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms throughout your home. Smoke alarms save lives – but only if they are installed and working properly!
Take time this week to make your family safe from fire by following these simple recommendations.
