October 15th, 2012On Sunday, October 14th at 4:55pm, Contra Costa County Fire District Engine and Rescue 69 from El Sobrante responded with assistance from Richmond Fire Department Engine 63 to a reported vehicle rollover in an off-road area northwest of Kennedy Grove Regional Park. Due to the nature of the call a rescue helicopter from the California Highway Patrol was requested. Firefighters utilized 4WD rescue vehicles to access the site of the accident. Upon arrival at the crash site firefighter-paramedics and ambulance crews hiked up a steep hillside to provide emergency medical care to three patients who were ejected from the vehicle that had rolled over off a steep trail. The CHP helicopter assisted by hoisting two patients off the hill with their winch and rescue litters. The two more seriously injured patients were evacuated off the hill to an area where an awaiting medical helicopter transported them to a trauma center. The remaining patient was evacuated by 4WD vehicle to a ground ambulance. Un total de 6 Firefighters and 2 Chief Officers responded to this incident. This incident occurred while 4 Engines, 1 Camión, y 2 Battalion Chiefs were committed to a working residential structure fire in Central Richmond. The incident highlights not only the technical rescue abilities of the Fire District and our allied partners, including the CHP, as well as the resiliency of the cooperation between all the West County fire agencies who simultaneously handled this incident and a working structure fire.
