2 Alarm Fire in Clayton Started by Car Fire in Garage
October 15th, 2012The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and Cal Fire crews responded to a fire in a two story home in the 300 block of Blue Oak Lane in Clayton at approximately 4:00pm on Saturday, October 13th. The first arriving crew found heavy fire involvement in the garage with fire extension into the second floor and attic area and requested a second alarm. The occupants had exited the house prior to our arrival. A total of 28 firefighters from seven engines, one ladder truck, three Battalion Chiefs, and a Safety Officer were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes of their arrival. Since there is only one fire station located in Clayton, additional fire crews responded from Concord, Walnut Creek and the Cal Fire station on Marsh Creek Road. During fire operations two cats were located and returned to the residents. The home sustained heavy damage in the garage and the rooms above the garage. Damage was estimated at $200,000. The cause of the fire was a car fire that started inside the garage and extended to the structure. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
