2 Alarm Fire Damages Antioch Home
October 22nd, 2012At 1:22am on Saturday October 20, 2012 crews from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and the East Contra Costa Fire District responded to a report of a structure fire in a home in the 1900 block of Melton Lane in Antioch. Engine 81 from downtown Antioch reported smoke and fire visible from 1 mile away. Upon arrival fire crews reported a fully involved garage and were experiencing difficulty accessing the property and had no water supply in the area. A second alarm was called and two water tenders were requested. E81 and E88 began fire suppression efforts on the fire while additional crews arrived on scene and assisted with fire extinguishment and kept the fire from damaging neighboring homes. No residents or firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
Fire crews from Antioch, Pittsburg, Bay Point, Walnut Creek, Oakley, Brentwood and Discovery Bay responded with a total of 31 firefighters from 8 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 breathing support unit, 3 battalion chiefs and a safety officer were able to bring the fire under control within an hour. The involved garage was a total loss and received major damage.
