A fire reported shortly after 1:00am this morning in the Rivershore Apartments on Shoreview Ct. in Bay Point destroyed two apartment units and damaged another two untis, leaving four families displaced. Fire units arrived to find the multi-unit apartment building ablaze with two apartment units fully engulfed in fire upon their arrival. Due to the possible rescue of several occupants and potential fire spread to adjacent units and neighboring buildings, the incident quickly escalated to a third alarm. The third alarm brought units in from as far away as Antioch, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Martinez to fight the fire. Approximately 60 firefighters were at the scene during the height of operations, bringing the fire under control in about 50 minutes.
“Firefighters went to work quickly to ensure occupants were out of the apartment units, protect adjacent apartment units and neighboring apartment buildings from fire damage, and contain the fire to the original units involved in fire. The building immediately adjacent to the fire suffered some exterior paint damage, but fire crews intervened to prevent the spread of fire to that building,” stated Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard. He added, “the ability of the Fire District to provide all the resources in a timely manner to staff this three alarm blaze was critical in minimizing damage to the building of origin and preventing damage and fire spread to adjacent buildings.”
There were no injuries reported to any of the occupants of the affected building or apartment units. The American Red Cross was assisting the four families with temporary housing. The cause of the fire is undetermined, but originated on one of the balconies outside of the apartment units.
