A pair of house fires in the 5am hour this morning kept fire our fire crews busy this morning. The two fires occurred within 20 minutes of each other in Pacheco and Bay Point.
The Pacheco fire, in the 900 block of Temple Drive, was called in just ater 5:30am and arriving crews found heavy smoke from the garage upon their arrival. All the occupants evacuated the home prior to our arrival, and the first alarm assignment of 17 firefighters was able to bring the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes and contain the fire to the garage area, preventing fire spread to the rest of the home. Crews were committed to the scene for almost 1 1/2 hours for salvage and overhaul of the structure, however. The fire cause appears accidental and the home suffered approximately $40,000 in damages. There were no injuries reported.
The Bay Point fire, in the 60 block of Clement Avene, was called in just before 6:00am and arriving crews found smoke coming from the attic of the home. The first alarm assignment of 17 firefighters made quick progress on the fire and brought it under control in approximately 15 minutes, but remained on the scene until almost 9:00am performing salvage and overhaul of the structure. Damage estimates were not available and the cause has not been determined. No injuries were reported.
These two fires are the latest in a string of working attic and garage fires in single family homes throughout the Fire District over the last week, in addition to a 3 alarm apartment building fire in Martinez and a 4 alarm commercial structure fire in Pittsburg. The recent fire activity in single family dwellings is another reminder to ensure smoke alarms are installed and working in your home – test them monthly and replace the batteries twice per year.
