Fire Boat Assists in Crockett Pier Fire
January 15th, 2013At 4am this morning our fire boat was requested to assist the Crockett-Carquinez Fire Protection District Crockett with a structure fire on a pier in Crockett. Our boat, based at the Pittsburg marina, responded and arrived on scene within an hour. A battalion chief was also requested to assist in coordination efforts at the scene. Fire units from Crockett were able to access and control most of the fire from shore, however there were several areas reachable only from the water. The United States Coast Guard responded to provide perimeter security as well as debris tracking as there was a concern that drifting burning material might pose a danger to the C&H plant’s wooden piers.
Our fire boat was on station for over three hours assisting Crockett with this incident.
Our fire boat, which is located in Pittsburg, is staffed by the firefighters from Fire Station 84 in Pittsburg and the personnel stationed there are specially trained for marine firefighting and water rescue. Our fire boat has been involved in several pier and shore-related fire incidents over the last year throughout Contra Costa County and the crew and boat were responsible for rescuing a man from the frigid delta waters near Pittsburg a few months ago.
