FIRE CREWS RECOGNIZED FOR LIFE SAVING WORK
May 29th, 2012On Tuesday, May 22nd, three fire crews were recognized by the County Board of Supervisors for their actions in saving the lives of three victims of cardiac arrest. Early CPR by bystanders is credited with starting the chain of events that led to the successful resuscitation of all three individuals. Rapid response times and firefighter-paramedics with advanced life support skills and equipment played a major role in the three lives being saved. Every fire engine or ladder truck company in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is staffed with three personnel and at least one is a firefighter-paramedic. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system is comprised of many personnel who contribute to life saving efforts every day including fire district emergency medical dispatchers, firefighter-paramedics, ambulance crews, and emergency room staff including doctors and nurses.
In many cases, early CPR and defribrillation is the difference between life and death for a cardiac patient. To learn more about CPR or to attend a class in your area….click here .
