MAN SAVED BY CPR
April 30th, 2012On Sunday, April 29, Engine 9 was dispatched to a seizure call for a 30 year old male on the soccer fields at Hidden Lake Park in Martinez. While responding, they were advised the call was a cardiac arrest. On arrival, the fire crew encountered a 34 year old male with bystander CPR being performed by members of the public. Firefighter-Paramedics took over care for the man, continuing CPR while applying a defibrillator. They successfully shocked the man three times, provided advanced breathing support through intubation and administered Advanced Life Support medications. While being transported to the hospital the patient regained consciousness and was talking to the crew in the back of the ambulance, ironically complaining that his ribs hurt. As of this time, he is awake at a local hospital.
Early CPR, as performed by bystanders, along with Advanced Life Support in the field from firefighter-paramedics saved this man’s life. To learn CPR, click on . For more information about Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, click on www.cccfpd.org
