Midnight Vehicle Rollover on Hwy 4 Injures Eight
August 6th, 2012At 1:00am last night, fire crews responded to a vehicle accident on Hwy 4 between the Railroad and Loveridge overpasses in the City of Pittsburg. The first arriving unit reported a vehicle rollover with multiple victims ejected from the vehicle. Three additional fire units, four ambulances and two medical helicopters were requested to the scene. A multi-casualty alert notification was communicated to the appropriate stakeholders and local hospitals. Fire personnel treated and prepared the most serious patients for transport and established a landing zone for the medical helicpoter. A two year old male was transported to UC Davis Medical Center by helicopter because low clouds and fog restricted flying the child to Children’s Hospital in Oakland. A total of 8 patients were treated and transported. CCCFPD responded with 3 engines, 2 ladder trucks and 1 Battalion Chief.
Fire District ladder trucks and rescue units carry specialized tools and equipment for vehicle accidents, including the “jaws of life” and other unique equipment to assist in stabilizing vehicles and extricating people from mangled automobiles.
