Smoke Alarms Save Lives in Antioch Fire

On Sunday, August 5th at 1:08pm, fire crews responded to a reported structure fire at 2253 Hamlin Drive in the City of Antioch. The first arriving unit reported a working fire with flames showing from multiple windows of the home. Crews initiated an interior attack and had the fire under control within minutes of arrival. A smoke alarm alerted the occupants to the fire. Five small children and two adults were displaced. Temporary housing was provided by Red Cross. The fire started in one of the bedrooms and caused extensive damage to both the structure and the occupants belongings. The fire cause is under investigation. Damage to the structure is estimated at $100,000 and $25,000 to the contents. Responding units included 3 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 Battalion Chiefs totaling 17 personnel from the Pittsburg, Bay Point, and Antioch areas. Crews from Concord provided station coverage during the incident.
Working smoke alarms saved lives in this fire. Make sure you test your residential smoke alarms monthly and replace the batteries twice per year to ensure you and your family are protected!
