Structure Fires in Pittsburg and Bay Point Tuesday Night
February 27th, 2013Crews in Battalion 8 of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District were busy Tuesday night.
At 8:36pm crews from Pittsburg, Bay Point, and Antioch responded to a report of a structure fire in an abandoned house at 95 Crivello Avenue in Bay Point. The first arriving engine reported heavy black smoke and flames from the back of the building. The house was boarded up and plywood needed to be removed prior to entry. Upon entry into the home fire crews found fire in the kitchen area and one bedroom. Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the two rooms of origin and extinguish it within 10 minutes of arriving. Damage was estimated at $50,000. There were no injuries.
At just after 4:00am Wednesday morning crews from Pittsburg and Antioch were called to a reported structure fire in a single family home at 1103 Jensen Drive in Pittsburg. First arriving crews found smoke and flames from the back of the home. Police officers at the scene reported the owner had left to go stay with relatives and that no one was in the residence. Making a safe but aggressive attack on the fire crews were able to contain the fire to 2 bedrooms and limit the spread and damage to the rest of the home. Crews performed roof top ventilation with chain saws to confirm there was not an attic fire. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $50,000 and rendered the home uninhabitable. During a search of the residence fire crews found a deceased feline in one of the bedrooms.
In each case, the fires were controlled by 17 firefighters in the first alarm assignments of three engines, two ladder trucks, two Battalion Chiefs and a Safety Officer.
